Oak Grove Plantation B&B
We combine the best of the 19th and 21st centuries with old-time hospitality and modern "green" features, including solar panels. Set aside your hectic life for a moment and let us pamper you in another world, where the pace is slower and the hospitality warm. Your visit to Oak Grove Plantation starts with a glass of lemonade or iced tea served leisurely on our front porch overlooking 400 acres full of Southern pines, oaks and teeming with wildlife...crickets, birds, frogs, box turtles and an occasional fox. After you are shown your room, I'll give you a leisurely tour of my ancestral home, which has been in my family for nearly 200 years. You'll have plenty of time to see Civil War and Revoluntionary War landmarks, car racing venues, antique shops, lakes and museums. You may want to go golfing, fishing or boating. Or just take a quiet walk or bike ride on our fields, trails, woods and streams. In the evening, we'll direct you to some of our fine restaurants, not far from our B&B.
After a refreshing night's sleep in one of our three guest rooms, you'll awake to the smell of our specialty Cluster Springs egg puff, lemon souffle pancakes, homemade biscuits or muffins and coffee or other delicious choices that have won raves from our customers. Our gourmet breakfast is served family style in the victorian dining room, sun shining in through the bay windows. You may want to read a book on our cheery sun porch, go on a wildflower walk or have a reiki treatment from me...a hands-on soothing and relaxing exercise. Whatever you do, you'll return home rejuvenated, wanting to come back again.
Besides having solar panels, The inn recycles, has a compost pile for vegetable scraps and has installed low-e energy-efficient storm windows on the south side. Motorists who arrive in hybrids get a third night free. Also, there is optional linen service and all the laundry on site dries on a clothesline. Rain barrels collect water, the inn has a tankless electric hot water heater, and it uses compact fluorescent lighting.
If you're tired, grumpy, worn out -- change your life with a woman's retreat at Oak Grove Plantation. Come alone or bring your friends. Start with a Friday evening reiki treatment-a hands-on relaxation and healing method. Start Saturday with a healthy breakfast and calming walk in the woods. Follow up with a massage. A delicious lunch will be provided, and in the evening, dine at South Boston's only AAA three-star restaurant, Bistro 1888 www.bistro1888.com (dinner not included). Finish your weekend with breakfast and a walk.

Hike Oak Grove Plantation - 225
Reconnecting to the natural world is fundamental to human health, well being and spirit. During a two-day stay, start from the front steps with Pickett Craddock for an after-breakfast walk of up to four miles on the wooded paths of our 400 acres. A former country road crosses the railroad tracks on an old wooden bridge, heading into a mix of pines and hardwoods. They attract numerous woodland species, such as northern cardinals, bluejays, tufted titmice and Carolina wrens. That's why Oak Grove Plantation is listed as one of the Virginia birding and wildlife trails.
Enjoy the Outdoors - $308 per couple
Come visit two days and nights, eat full breakfasts and take an early morning one-hour guided horseback trail ride for two or a hayride on shaded paths. And drive by Cage's sculpture garden, catch a musical at the Prizery and have dinner at a local three-star restaurant. Start the next day with another sumptuous breakfast followed by a guided 2-5 mile hike on shaded woodland roads. Complete your relaxation with a 15-minute Reiki treatment and a trip to the South Boston Halifax County Museum and finish up with dinner at another great local restaurant. (Prizery, restaurant costs not included.
Thomas Day Tour - $200-$300
Long before slaves were freed, a free black man named Thomas Day became one of the most prolific cabinetmakers in Southside. Now, more than 150 years later, you can see some of his entranceways, tables, chairs, beds and cabinets on a tour sponsored by area bed & breakfasts. They include Oak Grove Plantation in South Boston, Breezy Oaks Farm House in Alton, the Woodside Inn in Milton, N.C., and Villa Cathedral Home Bed and Breakfast in Alton. Among places on the tour with Day's works are the Thomas Day Home in Milton, Oak Tree Tavern in Alton and the South Boston-Halifax County Museum.
